Elk Grove Village Cares Program receives donation from local business bake sale

This month, the Elk Grove Village Cares program received a generous donation of $620 from JAS, a privately owned international freight forwarder and logistics provider that recently moved into town at 222 E. Devon Ave.

At the Elk Grove Village board meeting on Dec. 14, Jordy Romejin, JAS Chicago branch manager and Kim Riney, Midwest regional executive assistant were invited to share their story with the mayor, board and guests in attendance.

As part of their employee experience, JAS provides quarterly philanthropic platforms for its employees to participate in and give back to the community. The COVID-19 pandemic has stifled their efforts in participating in community events and traditional volunteer opportunities.

When JAS first moved into Elk Grove Village, Riney browsed the village's website to see what they could do for the community.

"After reading an article on the Elk Grove Village Cares collaborative initiative, I was moved to make a difference," said Riney.

This drove JAS to host its first bake sale on Nov. 15, raising $620 to support the Elk Grove Village Cares program and those affected by opioid addiction.

"This is impressive since we are a mid-sized company with most of our staff still working remotely," said Riney. "It was a pleasure for us to raise and donate money to a very worthwhile program."

The Elk Grove Village Cares program, implemented in 2018, helps connect those suffering from the disease of addiction to treatment programs. Under this initiative, anyone seeking treatment for their addiction can seek it through the Elk Grove Village Police Department. Since the implementation, the program has served as an important link on the path to recovery for individuals in need, making nearly 90 connections to partnering treatment programs.

If you or a loved one is seeking addiction treatment, Elk Grove Village Cares is ready to help. For information, visit Elkgrove.org/EGVCares.
