Test your knowledge of local trivia and voting rights at 'Love Your League' event Feb. 8
On Tuesday, Feb. 8, the League of Women Voters of Roselle-Bloomingdale will host their annual special February meeting titled, "Love Your League: Local Trivia and Voting Rights." The program will be 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Zoom.
Register via www.lwvrb.org.
The evening will feature a game to test your knowledge of local community trivia followed by a thought-provoking presentation and discussion on voting rights.
The discussion will be led by Donna Limper, Issues & Advocacy Chair for the League of Women Voters of Roselle-Bloomingdale.
"Voting rights are central to the League's mission to empower voters and defend democracy," Limper said. "In June 2021, more than 100 scholars of democracy issued a 'Statement of Concern,' a dire warning that democracy in the United States is in peril due to radical changes to core electoral procedures. Some state legislatures are passing laws that transform free and fair elections into political systems to manufacture the results they want."
Come and learn how the League supports fair, accurate, and secure voting systems and practices. Gain the answers to foundational questions like: Who has access to voting? How can you get accurate, nonpartisan information on voting, candidates, and ballot initiatives before Election Day? Is voting secure in DuPage County?
Chocolate is normally a big part of this annual celebration, but not doable over Zoom.
So Roselle's very own local candy purveyors, Chocolate Inspirations, are coming to the rescue!
The mother-daughter owned business has created several gift packages and a percentage of the proceeds will support the work of the League.
Stop by the store, 920 Central Ave. in Roselle, any time from Feb. 4 through Feb. 11. They've created eight delicious packages for to choose from. Items are available for pre-order by phone or email, as well as in-store purchase. The store offers handmade artisan chocolates made in small batches with premium ingredients, as well as award-winning English toffee and vegan chocolate. Many items are gluten free. See www.lwvrb.org for details.
This event is free and open to the public.
