Naperville police: Man dies of gunshot wound, person of interest in custody after standoff

Hours after discovering a man in an apartment complex with a fatal gunshot wound, Naperville police said they took a person of interest into custody following a standoff at an apartment building on the same block.

Officers responded at 8:30 a.m. to an apartment complex in the 900 block of Fairway Drive after receiving a report of a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The officers found the victim, who was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said officers were quickly led to possible suspect in an apartment building on the same block, where an hourslong standoff ensued. That person was taken into custody at bout 3:52 p.m.

Police said a preliminary investigation indicates that the victim and the person of interest knew each other and that the incident was not random.
