Kaneland district cancels Friday classes

School will be canceled Friday for students in Kaneland School District 302 so that administrators can plan COVID-19 mitigation strategies, district officials said.

The middle and high schools will remain open for planned after-school activities and events, but there will be no field trips during the day.

"The purpose of the emergency day is to provide the administration with an opportunity to plan for the future with regard to COVID-19 requirements and layers of mitigation measure," district officials said.

Everyone who enters the building will be required to wear a mask, and anyone who doesn't will be asked to leave.

Alternative programs outside the Kaneland district remain open, and students will still receive transportation from First Student or Spare Wheels.

The school day will be made up on May 19.
