Suburban theaters loom large during Chicago Theatre Week
If you haven't experienced suburban theater lately, now is the time to do so as suburban theaters from Lincolnshire to Oak Brook and from Skokie to Aurora raise the curtain on Chicago Theatre Week, running now through Feb. 27.
A revival of a musical masterwork, a new whodunit and a Midwest premiere are among the suburban productions offering a limited number of $30 and $15 tickets for select performances during the annual celebration, which this year finds many theaters struggling to rebound from the hiatus imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Having gone virtual last year in response to the pandemic, Chicago Theatre Week resumes in-person performances this year in celebration of its 10th anniversary.
Participating suburban venues include; Marriott Theatre ("West Side Story"); Metropolis Performing Arts Centre ("Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill"); Citadel Theatre ("Outside Mullingar"); Northlight Theatre ("Fireflies"); First Folio Theatre ("The Secret Council"); Drury Lane Theatre ("Evita") and Paramount Theatre ("Groundhog Day") among others. Participating Chicago venues include: Goodman Theatre ("Gem of the Ocean"); Broadway Playhouse ("The Play That Goes Wrong"); TimeLine Theatre ("Relentless"); Blue Man Group; The Second City; Broadway in Chicago ("Come From Away"); Mercury Theater Chicago ("Women of Soul"); Teatro ZinZanni; Porchlight Music Theatre ("Blues in the Night") and Windy City Playhouse ("Sons of Hollywood") among others.
COVID-19 precautions vary by venue, but most require proof of vaccination and masks. See chicagotheatreweek.com.
