Schaumburg to Transition to New Waste & Recycling Hauler
The Village of Schaumburg recently approved a five-year contract selecting Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LRS) as the village's new garbage and recycling hauler. Service with LRS will begin May 1.
In the meantime, Schaumburg residents are encouraged to select their preferred cart size for garbage and recycling by March 18. Visit the web portal at www.LRSrecycles.com/Schaumburg or call LRS Customer Service at (844) 633-3577 to make selections.
Each home will receive two carts: one for waste and one for recycling. There is no cost for the carts. Carts are available in the following sizes: 35-gallon, 64-gallon, and 96-gallon. Residents may continue to use their own containers but will need to select that option through the web portal or by calling the LRS customer service team to avoid receiving default carts.
Residents are encouraged to choose their preferred cart size by March 18, 2022. Residents of single-family homes who fail to make their selection will receive the default sizes of 96-gallon for waste and 64-gallon for recycling. Townhomes will receive the default size of 64-gallons for both waste and recycling. If residents receive the default sizes and requested something different after the March 18 deadline, LRS will still exchange delivered carts; however, residents will need to use the carts provided for the May 1 start while waiting for preferred sizes to arrive.
Delivery of new waste and recycling carts will take place during the month of April. Carts will be placed curbside and should not be used until the first week of May. Carts currently in use will be removed by the current hauler the last week of service. During the transition period of exchanging carts from the old hauler to LRS, the village will delay enforcement action related to proper garbage cart storage, as long as, the cart is not creating a nuisance.
Waste and recycling will both be collected on the same day as has been past practice. Schaumburg will move to a 5-day service schedule; most residents will retain their current service day. Additional details regarding the new service map will be provided on both the village's website at www.schaumburg.com and with cart delivery indicating any changes in service days. While there will be no service interruptions, typical service times may initially vary as drivers adjust to new routes.
Garbage, recycling, and landscape waste shall be placed curbside the day of collection no later than 7 a.m. to ensure it is collected.
Residents with questions about the new service can contact LRS at (844) 633-3577 or at service@lrsrecycles.com. Residents may also dial 311 in the village or contact Margaret Tinberg in Engineering & Public Works at mtinberg@schaumburg.com.
