Bartlett exhibit showcases Hakkanese Americans

Arts in Bartlett presents a new art exhibit by the Midwest Hakka Association community titled "The Colorful Views from the Eyes of Hakkanese Americans."

The exhibit will run through April at the Bartlett Village Hall 2nd Floor Gallery, 228 Main St., Bartlett.

This art exhibit is the kick off for several events celebrating the 20th anniversary of Arts in Bartlett. The Midwest Hakka Association Community has cultivated a close relationship with Arts in Bartlett, as well as with the village of Bartlett, and is honored to be part of such an important milestone.

The art exhibit also marks the 12th anniversary of the Sister Cities relationship between Miaoli City, Taiwan, and Bartlett.

With more than 20 pieces of artwork in Village Hall Gallery, and four more pieces in the Arts in Bartlett Gallery across the street, the exhibit is a celebration of Hakka arts and culture from the eyes of the Hakkanese American artists.

It includes scenic views of both Taiwan and United States, still-life paintings of every day life and beautiful calligraphy poems. Several of these talented artists come from three generations of family members who all enjoy creating in the arts.

All are welcome to attend the Artist Reception from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, at the Bartlett Village Hall in the 2nd Floor Gallery. The event is free and open to the public; masks are recommended inside the building.

The evening will begin with a social hour with light snacks, followed by a photo opportunity of the many visitors and dignitaries who will be attending, a proclamation of Hakka Month and the Sister Cities relationship by village President Kevin Wallace and ending with an artist talk by the participating artists.

The Bartlett Village Hall 2nd Floor Gallery is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays.
