Hoffman Stars Dance Company Shines Bright at Regional Competition

Hoffman Estates Park District's, Hoffman Stars Dance Company, took home many top awards February 26-27, 2022, at the regional, UPROAR Dance Competition in Batavia, Illinois.

"Our dancers and teachers worked very hard in preparation for this competition. It takes a lot of practice, time and dedication to be competition ready but they were up to the challenge," stated Jessica Karbowski, Dance coordinator at Hoffman Estates Park District.

Winners in the solo competition included Sophia Berichon - Gold - 2nd overall and Briana Dawson - Gold - 1st overall. Duet competition winners Kylie Hopkins and Ashley SanMiguel - Gold - took 1st overall in the junior category. Andrea Alvia and Cailin Hopkins competed a duet - Gold - 2nd overall. Eva Moiseeva and Jasmine Reyes also performed a duet - Gold - 1st overall in the teen category. Dancers Emma Scholl, Lily Shure, and Jillian Simon competed in a tap trio - Gold - 2nd overall.

Hoffman Stars Dance Company also had three companies participate in the small group competition. Company 1, ages 8 and under, took 2nd overall - Gold - for their Ballet dance and 3rd overall - Gold - for their Modern dance, in the mini category. Company 1 dancers include Kylie Berichon, Cora Fox, Miranda Montes, Sahasra Pinnamaneni, and Hailey Schroeder.

Company 2, Kylie Hopkins, Ashley SanMiguel, Emma Scholl, Lily Shure, and Jillian Simon, ages 9-11, took 1st overall: Gold - for their Jazz dance and 3rd overall - Gold - in their Ballet dance.

Competing in the 12-14 age bracket, Company 3, took 1st overall - Platinum - for their Lyrical dance, and 3rd - Gold - for their Ballet dance. Members included Andrea Alvia, Sophia Berichon, Briana Dawson, Cailin Hopkins, Eva Moiseeva, and Jasmine Reyes.

This dance competition was for novice to advanced dancers. Hoffman Stars Dance Company competed in the novice level which requires at least five hours of dance or rehearsal practice each week.

Company teacher, Wendy Shure stated, "the camaraderie of our girls, combined with their dedication and love for dance, made them all shine on stage."

Karbowski added, "Half of our company dancers are new this year and all have worked very hard for these competitions. It has been a pleasure choreographing dances with Wendy Shure for the dancers. I look forward to seeing the girls compete at our next two competitions!"

Hoffman Estates Park District offers dance instruction for ages 3 years to adults and competition dance for ages 5-18 years. Tryouts for the Hoffman Stars Dance Company 2022-2023 season will be held in June 2022 at Triphahn Center and Ice Arena, Hoffman Estates.
