Letter: Don't take Trump's assessment of himself at face value
On March 19, Marie Kafka wrote here about Donald Trump and the so-called liberal socialist agenda - whatever that is supposed to mean (she does not define it.)
She said there was no hint of war during his term. While it is true he did not start a war there were conflicts in Yemen, Syria, Somalia, Niger, Iraq and Afghanistan. So you see, he was not the beacon of peace as she seems to allude to.
She said there was no inflation. Well, there was, though increases in salary kept up with it. In addition, the federal debt rose by 50%, unemployment rose by 1.6% and we lost 2.9 million jobs.
So he was not the great economic wizard, as some say.
She said the border was safe, but illegal immigration rose by 15%. During his term, our border situation worsened.
She also said there was no drop in IRAs. Wow! Do you not recall the early days of the pandemic that led to Trump lying about and grossly miscalculating ("Tt will be over in two weeks, folks") when several times trading on Wall Street had to be paused due to steep losses just minutes after opening?
We all lost money then.
The bottom line is look at the facts first and do not buy into the image this con man and consummate liar skillfully portrayed.
