Vehicle chase, shooting leaves two injured in Waukegan

Two people are in stable condition after a vehicle chased and shot at another vehicle in Waukegan Sunday night, according to the Waukegan Police Department.

At 8:45 p.m., officers responded to reports of shots fired at the area of 8th and St. Jackson streets, authorities said.

Authorities said that a silver Nissan sedan was driving through the area when it was fired on by a light-colored pick-up truck.

The pick-up truck chased the sedan until the sedan crashed in the area of Jackson Street and Belvidere Road, authorities said.

The pick-up truck fled the area after the crash. Neither of the sedan's two occupants were injured.

A female victim, 20, from Georgia, and a 60-year-old Waukegan man were both injured in the crossfire, authorities said.

Authorities said the woman was driving her vehicle nearby when she was struck by a stray bullet.

The male victim was walking in the area when he was hit by gunfire, authorities said.

Both victims were taken to a nearby hospital and underwent surgery for their wounds, according to authorities.

Authorities said that an occupied house on the 800 block of Prescott Avenue was struck by gunfire, but no one was injured.

Police said shell casings were found in multiple areas.

An investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
