Public invited to Spring Severe Weather Workshop April 27

The village of Schaumburg is inviting the public to attend a Spring Severe Weather Workshop designed to provide participants with a variety of information and resources to remain safe when inclement weather strikes.

The workshop, which is sponsored by the village of Schaumburg Emergency Management and the village's Medical Reserve Corps, will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, at the Al Larson Prairie Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg Court, Schaumburg.

The event is free and open to Schaumburg residents. Seating at the event is limited. Participants are asked to register online at seam.ly/25jnhiYg or by calling the Nursing & Senior Services Division, (847) 923-3766.

Various speakers, including a guest speaker from the National Weather Service, will provide information on severe weather safety, including weather watches vs. warnings; outdoor warning siren and lightning detector information; severe weather safety (indoors and outdoors); and power outages and generators.

Registered households will receive a free severe weather radio, while supplies last.

This is the second event in a series providing emergency preparedness information to the community. The village hosted a winter weather preparedness workshop in November 2021, where participants learned a variety of information related to village winter operations and how to prepare for winter emergencies.
