Construction to begin on Aurora bridge on Farnsworth at Indian Trail

Traffic on Farnsworth Avenue at Indian Trail will be impacted beginning this week as a major construction project commences.

The bridge structure just north of Indian Trail Road, which carries Farnsworth Avenue over the Indian Creek, will be entirely replaced. First built in 1970, the structure has had no reconstruction, rehabilitation, or repair history and is due for a complete reconstruction.

The project will require traffic on Farnsworth to be reduced from two lanes in each direction to one lane in each direction. Temporary traffic signal installation will begin this week.

The bridge is in a predominantly commercial area - with a wide variety of businesses located along Farnsworth Avenue - approximately one mile south of I-88.

All businesses will be accessible during construction.

The existing structure accommodates four lanes of through traffic, one turn lane, and two sidewalks. The improved bridge will have four lanes of through traffic, one left-turn lane, one right-turn lane, shared-use sidewalks on each side, and decorative railings. Lighting will also be incorporated into the bridge for improved visibility at night.

Traffic message boards will be on display throughout the duration of the project, which is expected to last until the spring of 2023.
