Free, in-person Community Days coming to Northwest suburbs
Feedback from the recent "Jewish Chicago: Who We Are 2020" population study indicated that the community was looking for "new opportunities for Jewish adult engagement tailored to the interests of demographic groups who engage in Jewish life in a variety of ways." In response to these findings, JCC Chicago and CJE SeniorLife are excited to offer Community Days - free, in-person adult engagement in the Northwest suburbs, twice per month on Thursdays beginning Aug. 4.
The first Community Days program, Magnificent Collaboration, kicks off with a light lunch and an inside look at the story behind the construction of Hearst Castle. Actress and historian Annette Baldwin takes you on a visual journey as she tells the story of William Randolph Hearst and architect Julia Morgan in their quest to create an American palace by the sea.
On Aug. 18, Movie Music Memories is alive, narrated presentation on film history over the past century. This delightfully romantic presentation features favorite movie moments that will put a song in your heart and bring back precious memories. Experience 20 of the most artfully created movie scenes, love songs, and dance numbers ever seen on the silver screen. Familiar faces include Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Gene Kelly, Cyd Charise, Elvis Presley, Mitzi Gaynor, Smokey Robinson, John Travolta, Olivia Newton John, Nicole Kidman, and The Beatles. "With the ongoing success of our virtual Tuesday programming and rave reviews from the two recent in-person programs at the Bernard Horwich JCC, we were inspired to find meaningful ways to connect with the community in the Northwest suburbs," says Hillary Wenk, Manager of Community Engagement. "We are delighted to be expanding our adult program offerings while responding to a need highlighted by the population study."
Programming will take place from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Thursdays, Aug. 4, 18, Sept. 1, Oct. 6, 20, Dec. 1 and 15, at the Vernon Township Community Service Building, 2900 N. Main St., Buffalo Grove, Each week will be a thought-provoking presentation or discussion with a free, light lunch provided for select events. Registration is required for each member of the household; programming is intended for adults 18+.
Community Days is a free program brought to you by JCC Chicago and CJE SeniorLife and generously funded by a grant provided from the Albert and Lucille Delighter and Marcella Winston Foundation, a supporting foundation of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago.
