Buffalo Grove home featured on state solar tour

BUFFALO GROVE - A house in Buffalo Grove will be featured among more than 100 solar homes, businesses and nonprofit groups across the state participating in this year's Illinois Solar Tour Saturday, Sept. 24.

The Solar Tour, hosted by the Illinois Solar Education Association, is a free experience, including both in-person and virtual events allowing the public to see real-life examples of nearby businesses and residents who have decided to cut their utility bills by going solar.

Jeff and Toni Slepak's Buffalo Grove home is featured. The Slepaks decided to go solar because they wanted to reduce their carbon footprint, save on energy costs and be leaders in the clean energy movement, the association said in a news release.

Structured in the past as a statewide series of open houses, the Tour is shifting to a combination of in-person and digital audiences, with some communities offering local tours. Participants will gain valuable insight on the costs, processes, as well as the economic and environmental benefits of going solar.
