Mount Prospect Historical Society offers Needlecraft Nights

Starting Nov. 9, the Mount Prospect Historical Society will be hosting Monthly Needlecraft Nights the second Wednesday of each month from 7 to 9 p.m. in Central School, 103 S. Maple St., in Mount Prospect.

Bring your own knitting/crocheting/embroidery project, or try the spotlight project each month. All experience levels are welcome. Advance registration is recommended and a $5 donation is suggested.

November's project will be Dorset buttons - a style of craft-made button originating in the English county of Dorset. Their manufacture was at a peak between 1622 and 1850. They are characteristically made by repeatedly binding yarn over a disc or ring former.

On Dec. 14, participants will be making plastic canvas ornaments. Plastic canvas is a craft material of lightweight plastic with regularly spaced holes in imitation of a needlepoint canvas.

The meeting Jan. 11 brings visible and invisible mending. Participants will try out different techniques to embellish favorite clothing to extend their usability and elevate their style.
