Run for a cause in the Shannon Mac 5k and Walk
The annual Shannon McNamara Memorial 5K Run/2 Mile Walk will take place on Sunday, October 30, beginning at 9 a.m. at Rolling Meadows High School, 2901 Central Road. For more than 20 years, the "Shannon Mac Run" has supported the Shannon McNamara Scholarship Fund, which provides awards to qualifying RMHS graduating seniors.
The race is held annually in memory of McNamara, a 1997 Rolling Meadows graduate who was murdered while a senior at Eastern Illinois University. She was a top track and gymnastics athlete at RMHS, and dreamed of becoming a high school teacher and coach.
RMHS athletic director Jim Voyles, who has spearheaded the event since the beginning, says, "To all who have and continue to support this special day, I can't thank you enough!"
The event is a joint effort of the high school and the Rolling Meadows Park District. Read more about the day's schedule at https://rmparks.org/event/5k.
