Antioch Community High School locked down after threat Friday

Police are investigating the source of an "active threat" that led to a lockdown at Antioch Community High School Friday afternoon and prompted a large police response throughout the village.

High school officials said Friday that a phone call "with a concerning message" prompted the security lockdown around 1:30 p.m.

Antioch communication specialist Jim Moran said police promptly were dispatched to the high school. Moran said investigators were able to quickly identify the call originated from a cellphone inside the school.

Moran said after a complete sweep of the school, investigators determined there was no threat to the school or community and no student was taken in custody.

Students were released around 3:55 p.m., according to a message from school administration to parents.

"No viable threat was identified but ACHS will continue to partner with law enforcement agencies to ensure everyone's safety," the message read.

In addition to responding at the high school, police were dispatched to every other Antioch school out of an abundance of caution, Moran said.

Antioch Police Chief Geoffrey Guttschow said the swift response is a testament to the ongoing training and solid communication between Antioch police and school district officials.

"We would like to thank the parents and students for their patience and cooperation during this stressful situation," Guttschow said. "It was the corporation by everybody that helped the situation end quickly and safely."
