Man charged with arson after Libertyville house fire

A 26-year-old man has been charged with arson in connection with a fire earlier this month at a single-family home on the 500 block of East Golf Road in Libertyville where police said the man used to live.

A judge set bail for Adrian S. Jonas at $350,000 Friday. He would need to post $35,000 to be released from jail while his trial is pending.

Firefighters were called to the two-story home about 6:40 p.m. Oct. 10. No injuries were reported, but images from the scene show the home suffered significant damage throughout. Once the fire was extinguished, firefighters determined that the house was unoccupied.

Libertyville police said Friday that witnesses at the scene helped officers find Jonas. Officers found him not far from the fire and determined he was injured. He was taken to the hospital.

Deputy Chief Chad Roszkowiak declined to comment on how investigators believe Jonas was injured.

Initial reports of the fire indicate the blaze may have been started by an explosion.

Libertyville police listed Jonas' address as being on the 500 block of East Golf Road, but Roszkowiak said Jonas was homeless at the time of the fire. Libertyville police took Jonas into custody Thursday.

In addition to two counts of arson, Jonas is charged with violating an order of protection and resisting a peace officer.
