Letter: Amendment needed to protect worker rights

I would like to disagree with the Daily Herald about Amendment 1. I recommend voting yes for Amendment 1 to protect Illinois workers rights.

Twenty-seven conservative leaning states, with Wisconsin being the most restrictive, have enacted laws to restrict union rights. Illinois with its passage of Amendment 1 will prevent that from happening here.

Your paper wrongly placed in the Business section instead of on the Opinion page where it belongs, two articles by Matt Paprocki that try to scare readers claiming property taxes will go up due to Amendment 1, with no basis in fact. Paprocki is the president of the Illinois Policy Institute which you wrongly attributed as nonpartisan but is in fact a libertarian think tank funded by conservatives, according to Wikipedia and Pro Publica Illinois.

Worker rights must be protected. All workers in Illinois benefit from increased wages and better working conditions because of union protections. I urge voters to vote Yes on Amendment 1.
