Village Treasure House is celebrating 25 years of giving; over $3.4 million donated

In 1997, a dedicated group of women came together with a goal and a mission - to establish a nonprofit home décor and consignment shop. This mission focused shop would offer grants to local agencies supporting families and individuals in crisis. Twenty-five years later, over $3.4 million dollars have been given to multiple local agencies that provide food, shelter and counseling to our neighbors in need.

"In the beginning, no one realized what a difference our mission could make in so many lives," said Kim Blake, co-president.

Currently Village Treasure House distributes grants twice a year to several local agencies providing essential services to those in need. Lisa Hanneman, director of Youth Services of Glenview/Northbrook, one of those agencies, added, "What an incredible legacy you all have made possible in 25 years- touching so many organizations and, as a result, countless lives. You have created an avenue for everyone in our community to do good and give back with your incredible model."

The success of Village Treasure House is made possible by the dedication of over 100 volunteers and staff, most who have been involved for many years.

"It's a fun place to volunteer and form friendships, while giving back to the community," said Julie Hansen, co-president.

This 25-year milestone would not be possible without the support and patronage of our consignors, customers and donors. As a token of thanks, Village Treasure House recently held Customer Appreciation Days, recognizing the village of individuals who support its mission. An evening reception celebrating our founders and volunteers continued the festivities.

Over the past 25 years, Village Treasure House's unique position in the community and its commitment to its mission have contributed to aid those in need. It's this strong commitment that will enable Village Treasure House to continue to support those in need for years to come.
