College of DuPage offers outdoor weekend adventures in 2023

Explore outdoor activities in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Iowa, Missouri and Wisconsin with weekend adventure courses through the Field and Experiential Learning program at College of DuPage.

Courses take participants rock climbing on the glaciated quartzite cliffs of Devil's Lake State Park, snowshoeing in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, backpacking in the Hoosier National Forest, canoeing down the Upper Iowa River and many other activities in locations across the Midwest.

Included fees vary and cover all ground transportation, camp fees/permits and group equipment.

The courses run on select dates and tuition for one credit is extra.

• Feb. 10-12: Snowshoe down the North Country Trail, located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Snowshoe north toward Lake Superior and see picturesque vistas and scenic waterfalls. Expect to travel six to seven miles a day.

• April 14-16: Join a backpacking weekend in the Hoosier National Forest of Southern Indiana. This class is good for the first-timer or more experienced backpacker. Basic backpacking and outdoor living skills will be taught during this weekend adventure. Expect to travel six miles a day.

• April 14-16: Enjoy a weekend rock climbing adventure in the Midwest's premier climbing location, the glaciated quartzite cliffs of Devil's Lake State Park in central Wisconsin. On climbs ranging from 30 to 80 feet, learn basic climbing skills, belay techniques and commands, and how to safely use equipment from experienced lead instructors.

• April 28-30: Paddle among the bald eagles, steep limestone cliffs, pastoral farmland and the small towns of the Upper Iowa River. Learn basic river canoeing and camping skills and expect to paddle between 25 and 40 miles during this weekend adventure.
