Elgin AAUW gives Women on the Brink the 2022 Charitable Giving Award

The Elgin Area branch of the American Association of University Women presented its charitable award to Women on the Brink at the organization's holiday luncheon on Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Elgin Country Club.

Jennifer Ford accepted the donations on the behalf of Women on the Brink.

Women on the Brink's mission is to offer a helping hand to women who find themselves literally on the brink of poverty. Working with Elgin's Partnership for Early Learning, the organization has given laundry gift cards to moms so that their children can go to school with clean clothes and coats.

Volunteers then go in to area laundry mats with books to read to the children thereby instilling a love of learning.

This year, Women on the Brink will focus on the mothers who want nothing more than to make the holidays special for their children. The women more often than not, neglect taking care of themselves. Thanks to the generosity of the AAUW women, Women on the Brink will be giving gift cards to the moms with strict admonitions to use the cards for something special for themselves.

As Jennifer Ford often says, "We can't do everything but we can do something."
