St. Emily School PK3 and Third Graders work on STEM project

The St. Emily School Pre-Kindergarten 3-year-old students celebrated Winter Animal Week by building igloos. This STEM project involved constructing igloos out of toothpicks and marshmallows. The third graders worked with the PK students to help them make sure their structures were sturdy enough to house their small toy penguins.

"This project was a fun, hand-on approach for our students to learn about habitats for winter animals," said Bridget Gawlik, Pre-Kindergarten 3 teacher. "Plus they love collaborating with the older students, and the third graders were able to teach them to expand on their ideas for constructing their igloo"

"My third graders loved spending time with and helping the younger students brainstorm different ways to build an igloo. The younger students benefit from the help and it teaches my students how to be better leaders and show compassion towards others," said Katie Willing, third grade teacher.

To find out about this and other exciting happenings at St. Emily School, attend the Open House on Sunday, January 29 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Visit the classrooms, meet the teachers, administration, and current families. Registration for the 2023-24 school year will also be available.
