COD Theatre puts on ghostly tale 'The Uninvited'
College of DuPage College Theater is putting on Tim Kelley's "The Uninvited" April 6-16.
Performances are 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays in the Studio Theater of the McAninch Arts Center, 425 Fawell Blvd. in Glen Ellyn.
Theater department chair Amelia Barrett directs the play, based on the novel by Dorothy Macardle.
A charming house in England overlooking the Irish Sea provides an escape from the demands of life for Pam Fitzgerald and her brother Roddy. The suspiciously low-price due to an unsavory reputation doesn't stop them, but strange occurrences bring to life a haunted house. To quell the disturbances, guests at a housewarming party try to make contact, and dark secrets are revealed.
"'The Uninvited' is part of an early thriller/ghost story genre, seen on the stage throughout the early 20th century. While it might have chilled audiences of that period, to me, it is a mood piece, atmospheric and romantic," Barrett said. "The more interesting aspects of the story deal with the relationships of the characters and the 'curse' that must be lifted in order for the new residents to live an unencumbered life of freedom and true love."
Tickets are $14 for students and seniors and $16 for adults. Please note the play contains adult themes and language.
Talkback sessions will take place after the April 14 performance with the actors, crew and Barrett.
