Geneva Design House to move from State Street
Geneva Design House, founded in Geneva by Mike and Susan Haas in 1978, has sold its home of 25 years - one of Geneva's most iconic buildings, located at 210 W. State Street - sometimes called the "Clocktower building."
The retail business, which sells fine furniture, luxury carpeting, home décor and "everlasting floral" will move into its warehouse facilities, located directly behind the storefront. The retailer is now closing out of current stock and curating its future inventory to fit a new "design warehouse" evolution of its brand.
Beginning as "Everlasting Flowers" in the 1970s - a shop selling beautifully designed artificial floral arrangements that looked "more alive than real flowers" (as an early customer noted) - the business moved to the 200 block of State Street in 1985, across from the present location.
At that time the Haas' added fresh flowers and area rugs to the inventory. A few years later they spun off the fresh flower business, which eventually became Town & Country Gardens - still in business today next door to the building they're selling. By 1998 they were well known as Strawflower Shop - and that year they moved into their present location - the old Landfield's Furniture flagship store - when it closed down.
"We have a lot of history in Geneva over the last 50 years," said Mike Haas. "We're looking forward to establishing this next chapter to make Geneva Design House an important part of the home interiors landscape in the Western Suburbs for many years to come."
Kelsey Haas, daughter of Mike and Susan, is an important part of the new business plan.
"Our customer base loves what we offer, and we will continue to serve them with exceptional interior design," said Kelsey Haas, general manager of the new warehouse store. "But we will also be evolving our offerings to feature items that will appeal to new families who are moving into the Fox Valley. As a millennial, I have a different design approach than my parents, and together we're excited to offer design options that have an even broader appeal."
According to Mike Haas, the business has been moving in that direction for several years.
"It's what we have been working toward with the name change that we began putting in place over three years ago," Mike Haas said. "Elegant, high-quality furniture, rugs and décor that you can't find other places. We think the time is right to push forward on this path."
Geneva Design House is still accepting new orders while also discounting floor items to sell down its stock in anticipation of the pending move, set for early summer. Customers can expect discounts of up to 50% off throughout the store in June. For more information, local residents should watch for notices in social media, or stop by the store.
