Author, Dalit activist Thenmozhi Soundararajan to discuss the Indian caste system with Schaumburg Library

Schaumburg Township District Library welcomes renowned Dalit activist Thenmozhi Soundararajan to discuss the Indian caste system in an online program on Wednesday, July 19, 2023.

Thenmozhi Soundararajan has been featured on CNN, NPR and ABC News, as well as in The New York Times, Slate and The Washington Post. Now, she'll join Schaumburg Library patrons for an online event to discuss how the Indian caste system still has power in the US and what we can do about it.

Thenmozhi Soundararajan is a Dalit Civil rights artist, organizer and theorist who's worked with hundreds of organizations to better understand the urgent issues of racial, caste and gender equity. Working across disciplines, she is an innovative strategist and thinker that has built bridges between many communities around the world.

Through her work at Equality Labs, Thenmozhi has mobilized the South Asian American community to confront their historical trauma and to break the silence about caste, and to commit to ending caste apartheid, gender-based violence, white supremacy and religious intolerance.

The program, "The Indian Caste System in the U.S.," will take place online on Zoom on Wednesday, July 19 at 7 p.m. Visit SchaumburgLibrary.org/events or call 847-985-4000 to register.
