St. Emily Students Participate in DePaul University Summer Academy

Students from St. Emily School in Mt. Prospect had the opportunity to participate in the DePaul University Catholic Future Teacher Leader Summer Academy for middle school students in June. Fourteen students from fifth to eighth grade participated in five workshops where they broke into small groups and collaborated on innovative ideas that could be implemented at St. Emily School.

Dr. Alicia Huddleston, Adjunct Professor at DePaul University, coached the students through the process of brainstorming, researching, collaborating, and presenting.

At the end of workshop the students traveled to DePaul University College of Education where they presented their ideas to a group of DePaul professors. Their topics covered educational field trips, vending machines, uniform policy changes, and athletic tryouts. The students answered questions, received feedback, and participated in an award ceremony for their micro-credential in Catholic leadership. To celebrate, they were treated to lunch, DePaul gear, and a tour of the DePaul Lincoln Park campus.

"I am so proud of these students for taking time out of their summer to participate in this unique experience. Thank you to DePaul for investing in the development of our future leaders," said Karen Booth, St. Emily School principal.
