Gail Borden Public Library offering fun for families this summer

From a bubble bash to storytime at the zoo, families will enjoy summer fun together in August at programs offered by Gail Borden Public Library in Elgin. Some programs request registration. Bubble Show Spectacular!

Mr. Scott will amaze and entertain families when he presents a giant bubble show from 3 to 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4 at the Rakow Branch, 2751 W. Bowes Road in Elgin. No registration is needed for this outdoor program.

Children's Flea Market

Kids in second to eighth grade are welcome to sell their old treasures and make some spending money from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5 in the Main Library Meadows Community Rooms, 270 N. Grove Ave. in Elgin. Nothing will be priced over $10. Only children's items will be sold - no food or clothing. Children who would like to sell their items need to register but anyone is welcome to buy.

Touch a Truck

Families are invited to this free, fun event from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 7 in the main library's parking lot. Kids will be able to climb on an Elgin fire engine, an Elgin police car, school bus, ambulance and more.

"Under the Hickory Tree"

Stories at Lords Park Zoo "Under the Hickory Tree" will take place from 11:30 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Aug. 10 at Lords Park Zoo, 325 Hiawatha Drive in Elgin. Families can bring chairs or a blanket and listen to stories about bison, cows, chickens and other animals.

Storytime with Sweets

Another fun-filled storytime for families, "Saturday Storytime with Sweets," will be held from 11 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 26 in the main library Sally Lee Rooms. Families will enjoy stories, songs and special treats at this drop-in program.

Family Yoga

Join us for a family yoga program from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19 at the main library outdoor stage. Participants will do a series of beginner yoga poses, read a story and make a craft. If you have a yoga mat, you are welcome to bring it. If not, a beach towel will be provided. The program will be held in the Meadows Community Rooms in the case of inclement weather.

Children's Book Author Fair

Discover local children's authors and find new and interesting reads from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 29 in the main library Meadows Community Rooms. Books will be available for purchase and signing. No registration is needed to attend.
