Police: Volo man shoved, kicked officers who were trying to de-escalate a domestic dispute

A 62-year-old Volo man is behind bars after shoving and kicking two police officers at his home who officials said were trying to de-escalate a domestic dispute on Friday.

Michael L. Brown is charged with two counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer, one count of resisting a peace officer and one count of obstructing a peace officer, according to court records.

A family member of Brown's called 911 at around 5:45 p.m. Friday to report he was out of control, Lake County Sheriff's Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said.

The deputies arrived at the home on the 1500 block of Prescott Drive and were trying to work out a resolution to the domestic dispute without having to arrest anyone, Covelli said. Covelli said Brown appeared to be intoxicated and was uncooperative.

Then Brown shoved one of the deputies, and the officers tried to arrest him. Brown resisted and kicked both deputies during the scuffle, Covelli said. Neither deputy was injured, and they were able to take Brown into custody.

A judge set Brown's bail at $50,000, which means he would need to post $5,000 cash to leave jail while his trial is pending.

Brown is next due before a judge on Thursday afternoon.
