Mount Prospect promotes veteran officer Anthony Addante to deputy police chief

A long-serving member of the Mount Prospect Police Department now occupies one of the top spots on the force.

Anthony Addante, who has served on the department for 24 years, was sworn in Tuesday as the agency's new deputy chief of administration.

He replaces Tim Griffin, who on Aug. 8 was sworn in as the new police chief in the LaGrange.

Addante has been a patrol officer, community-oriented policing officer, patrol sergeant, sergeant of the special investigations and gang intelligence unit, administrative sergeant, patrol commander, and investigative commander during his time on the force.

He also is trained as a field youth officer, field training officer and crime-free housing officer.

Addante is a graduate of Northwestern University's Center for Public Safety's School of Police Staff and Command and Boston University's Senior Management Institute for Police program.

He said he intends to focus on officer wellness and maintain a strong connection to the community.

"It's truly an honor and a privilege to take on this new role," Addante said. "I'm humbled to serve Mount Prospect and the members of the Mount Prospect Police Department."

Griffin, a 25-year veteran of the force, had served as deputy chief since 2014.

Chief Michael Eterno previously served as a deputy chief alongside Griffin.

"I couldn't have asked for a better partner to work with," Eterno said. "We complemented each other, I think, very well. He handled the administrative side. I handled the operations side. We learned from each other. He was a phenomenal mentor and a great friend."

In addition to swearing in Addante as deputy chief, the village also swore in Officer Jeff Taylor as sergeant.
