Sugar Grove BSA Scout awarded Eagle rank

Logan Hubble, 17, of Sugar Grove was the second Boy Scout promoted to Eagle rank in a week at Wesley United Methodist Church in Aurora.

Blackhawk Troop 11, chartered by the church, promoted Logan to Eagle, Boy Scouts of America's highest rank at a court of honor Sunday, Aug. 6. A week earlier, Ethan Pope, 18, of Montgomery was promoted to Eagle.

Hubble, the son of Monika and Michael Hubble, is a senior at Marmion Academy in Aurora where he is a member of the Cadet basketball team. He plans to continue his education at a college to be selected.

For his Eagle Scout service project, Logan and fellow Scouts demolished and rebuilt a firewood shelter at Camp Dean, a Girl Scout camp in Big Rock.

Troop 11 Assistant Scoutmaster Sarah Bragg presided at the ceremony. She presented a certificate, medal and a badge that recognize Hubble's accomplishments.

Hubble presented appreciation pins to his parents, Monika and Michael.

A reception concluded the event.

Wesley UMC chartered Blackhawk Troop in 1916. The second-oldest troop in Illinois, Troop 11 is part of BSA Three Fires Council based in St. Charles.

Since its formation, about 200 members of Troop 11 have earned the Eagle Scout award, the highest achievement or rank attainable in the Boy Scouting program of the Boy Scouts of America.

Since its inception in 1911, only four percent of Scouts - 2.5 million - have earned this rank after a lengthy review process.

Requirements include earning at least 21 merit badges. An Eagle Scout candidate must demonstrate Scout spirit, an attitude based on the Scout Oath and Law, service and leadership. Included is an extensive service project that the Scout plans, organizes, leads, and manages. Eagle Scouts are presented with a medal and a badge that visibly recognize the accomplishments of the Scout.
