Library kicks off Sunday concert series on St. Charles Jazz Weekend

The St. Charles Public Library will kick off its annual Sunday Concert Series at 2 p.m. Sept. 10 with a special performance in partnership with the 12th annual St. Charles Jazz Weekend.

The performance will be an explosive violin and guitar program showcasing the incredible musical chemistry between violist Daniela Bisenius and guitarist Gabriel Datcu, two of Chicago's most celebrated artists.

The concert will include sophisticated arrangements of well-known jazz and gypsy jazz standards, classical works and sensual Argentinian tango music.

Violinist Daniela Bisenius was born in Bucharest, Romania. Her parents, both professional pianists, started her on violin at the age of 5. She attended Music School George Enescu where she began studying with Dinu Cristea and later with Valeriu Rogacev. She has performed with Frankfurter Opera, Munick Philharmonic, Bayerisches Rundfunk and RTL Luxembourg. In 1988, she came to the United States, where she was awarded a full scholarship to the University of Iowa. Bisenius has shared the stage with Natalie Cole, Luther Vandross, Smoky Robinson and Kurt Elling.

Guitarist Gabriel Datcu, a native of Transylvania, Romania, began his musical journey at age 4. In 2000, Gabriel was offered the chance to study and settle in the United States. He arrived in the Chicago area and was awarded a musical scholarship to DePaul University, where he studied with Bob Galmieri, jazz guitar instructor, and at Northern Illinois University, where he was taught by Fareed Haque, jazz and classical guitar professor. By attending several music workshops, he had the opportunity to study with Pat Metheny and John Scofield, which became two of his stylistic major influences.

Since 1981, the library has featured a wide variety of musical performances. The public is invited, and the concerts are free to attend. The St. Charles Public Library is located at 1 S. Sixth Ave. in St. Charles. For more information, visit www.scpld.org or call (630) 584-0076.
