SALUTE, INC., hosts 0.26-mile Micro Marathon
Though TEAM SALUTE raises funds for injured military personnel by running in the Chicago Marathon, an upcoming race hosted by SALUTE will require a bit less of its runners. On Thursday, Sept. 21, SALUTE is hosting a micro marathon, a 0.26-mile walk or run around the Rosemont entertainment district.
"Our micro marathon, which is essentially five city blocks long, is a bit easier and arguably more fun than the traditional 524-block marathon," said SALUTE, INC. Executive Director Mary Beth Beiersdorf. "Participants can come and socialize while enjoying beverages and treats from local vendors."
Participants will meet at Crust Brewing in Rosemont to pick up their race bib. Then, after crossing the finish line, they will receive a commemorative sticker, treat box, snacks and a beer or lemonade. Both at registration and at the race, SALUTE, INC. will be accepting donations to support veterans, military personnel and their families.
"SALUTE has a 20-year history of hosting competitive running events, but we wanted to plan something fun that just about everyone can enjoy," claimed Beiersdorf. "We're always looking for ways to connect with more members of the community, and this felt like a great way of doing that."
The micro marathon is sponsored by the Rosemont Chamber of Commerce, Crust Brewing, Sugar Factory, Northern Builders, Inc., Parkway Bank Park Entertainment District, and The Thomas & Christina Grusecki Foundation. This free event will take place rain or shine from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Registration is required prior to Sept. 14.
