Plates, politics and patience

We have become impatient whiners. Remember August 31's letter entitled, "Why the wait for [Illinois car] plates?" That writer moaned that his new car plates had not arrived, even though he had ordered them in late April, and the secretary of state's website told him they would come "soon," according to him. He whined, "What is happening in the secretary of state's office ...?

Does this sound like a politically motivated attack, especially when the writer criticizes this secretary of state for being concerned with library books? Does he not know that the secretary of state is also the state librarian? That the state librarian is concerned with literacy and books?

Incidentally, my new plates came several months after I paid renewal fee. No doubt, the whiner's plates will come eventually. Based on my experience renewing plates and driver's license, I think the secretary of state is doing a great job improving service and modernizing department processes.
