Kane County to host Shredding 'n' More recycling event Sept. 30

Kane County Recycles is hosting a special "Shredding 'n' More" recycling event on Saturday, Sept. 30.

It will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at the Kane County Circuit Clerk's building, 540 S. Randall Road in St. Charles. It is located just north of Route 38 and south of Route 64 across from the Kane County Fairgrounds.

It will be held rain or shine, but will close in the event of hazardous conditions.

It is open to Kane County residents looking to have their confidential documents shredded. Proof of residency is required. You are limited to 4 boxes or roughly what will fit in a normal passenger vehicle without folding down seats. Please pack materials in cardboard boxes, plastic totes, or paper bags for small quantities. They will give your boxes and totes back.

Do not bring paper that's already shredded; it can be taken to the Kane County Recycling Centers in Batavia or West Dundee year round in sealed paper bags.

They also will be collecting clothing, textiles, small home goods, latex paint, child car seats, aerosol items and small compressed gas containers for proper disposal.

The county is not recycling any other items at this event.

It is free for document shredding and recycling of shoes, textiles and small home goods.

There is a per-item fee to recycle latex paint, child car seats, aerosol items and small compressed gas containers. Cash and credit cards are accepted.

Costs for latex paint: $1 per quart can, $3 per gallon can, $5 per 2 gallon can, $15 per 5 gallon bucket.

Propane tanks, isobutene, CO2 and MAPP gas canisters under 16 oz. are accepted. They cannot take grill-size propane tanks or any other gases.

Aerosols, isobutene, CO2 and MAPP gas containers are $1 each. Propane tanks are $3 each.

All child car seats and boosters are accepted. Cost for child seats is $20 per item to cover disassembly and transportation of materials to end recyclers.
