Local DAR Good Citizen Program begins in 10 local high schools

The Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizens Award honors a senior student in a public or private high school who best exemplifies the characteristics of leadership, service, dependability and patriotism.

The Elias Kent Kane Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution kicked off the 2023-24 Good Citizen scholarship contest in 10 local private and public high schools this month.

School officials at each school will choose one student, based on scholarship, leadership, as well as school and community service.

In February, they will receive a certificate, a pin, and a gift card for $50 in recognition of their achievement.

In addition, each applicant may submit an essay on the meaning of good citizenship.

One winner's essay from that group will advance to district, where they have a chance to advance to the state and national levels.

One U.S. student will be awarded a $10,000 scholarship at the national level.
