Fox Valley Brass Band to open four-concert series at Aurora church Oct. 22

Fox Valley Brass Band, a 30-piece ensemble, will open a four-concert series Sunday, Oct. 22, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Aurora.

For the debut concert themed "Let's Dance!," director Victor Anderson will lead the band in arrangements of dance music from around the world.

Included are rhythmic music of the Balkans, fast and furious Hungarian folk style, beautiful and comical music of the Scottish, and music in the style of a Celtic jig.

Ballet, classical, rock, funk and jazz are included in the traditional brass band's instrumentation.

The public is invited to the concert which begins at 3 p.m. at the church, 14 N. May St. Parking is free.

The band's concert schedule at Wesley continues on Dec. 10 with "Holiday Traditions," March 3 with "The Unconquerable Soul," and June 23 with "Summer Pops"

All concerts are at 3 p.m. Online tickets are $15 or $12 for students and seniors. Tickets at the door are $18 and $15.

Fox Valley Brass Band's mission is to perform high quality concerts of brass literature for the Fox Valley community while providing an entertaining and engaging cultural experience.

The group features high-level volunteer musicians from the Fox Valley area and beyond.

Members are chosen not only for their outstanding musicianship, but also for their willingness to support and create educational opportunities for youth.

The band performs a range of brass literature, focusing primarily on traditional British brass band genre. It also promotes the new works of contemporary composers through both original compositions and transcriptions.
