100-year-old World War II vet to be honored at St. Charles Veterans Day ceremony Nov. 11

The annual St. Charles Veterans Day Ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, inside Fire Station 1, 112 N. Riverside Ave. Please join us to show your appreciation for our country's veterans.

The ceremony will include singing of the national anthem, followed by invocation, remarks, gun salute, and taps performance.

World War II veteran Duane Stevenson, who is turning 100 years old on Veterans Day, also will be recognized at the event.

"On Veterans Day, we gather as a community to say 'thank you' to our veterans for their selfless service to our country," said Mayor Lora Vitek. "At the city, we are proud of the fact that nearly 10% of our workforce are veterans. We have been recognized consistently by the U.S. Department of Labor with a Gold Medallion in the HIRE Vets program."

For more information about the event, contact retired Lt. Colonel Mark Powell, event coordinator, at (630) 329-6444 or visit www.stcharlesil.gov.
