Quilts of Valor Chapter presents quilts to 11 veterans

This Veterans Day, the Quilts of Valor Foundation's chapter at Christ the Lord Lutheran Church of Elgin recognized veterans of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin.

A special ceremony was held at Holy Trinity on Saturday, Nov. 11, and further recognition was given at the Sunday service. Each veteran received a 60-by-80-inch patriotic quilt.

Patty Harrer, coordinator of the local chapter at the church, led the group presenting patriotic quilts to 11 veterans of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Elgin: Wally Allen, Jim Condro, Joe Franks, Jerry Helland, Vic Leatherman, Jim Mosby, Kirk Newman, Ron Range, Emily Steinway, and Al Trupp.

Each quilt requires work by several volunteers, with up to 50 or 60 hours of labor.

Quilts of Valor is a movement of more than 10,000 volunteer members across 600 groups in all 50 states.

The foundation's objective is to bring healing to service members and veterans. The volunteers believe in gratitude and that these quilts bring tangible comfort to awardees.
