Police: DeKalb man, 18, facing charges after high-speed chase through Elmhurst

A DuPage County judge denied pretrial release to a 18-year-old DeKalb man accused of leading police on a high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle Monday night in Elmhurst.

Yohanice Jones Skipper, 18, of DeKalb, is charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, aggravated fleeing and eluding, and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon - all felonies, according to a news release on Tuesday from the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office.

Jones Skipper is accused of driving a stolen Hyundai sedan, with an unnamed 17-year-old in the passenger seat, on I-290 Monday evening. When he exited at York Road just before 10 p.m., he was soon surrounded by Elmhurst police officers, the release stated. However, Jones Skipper drive away, striking the front passenger side of one of the squads as he did, police said.

Police chased Jones Skipper who, at one point, was driving about 72 mph in a 25 mph zone, until he and the teen got out of the car near a dead end on Crestview Avenue and tried to run away, police said.

Both were taken into custody; when searching the area, police found a loaded handgun, the release said.

The 17-year-old is scheduled for a detention hearing today. Jones Skipper is next due in court on December 11 for an arraignment hearing.
