Nine West Chicago High School students chosen for ILMEA Music Festival

Nine students from West Chicago Community High School were selected by audition for the 2023 Illinois Music Education Association (ILMEA) District 9 Honor Festival. This year's festival was held on Saturday, Nov. 11, at Dundee-Crown High School in Carpentersville.

The students competed against over 1,200 students in band, choir, and orchestra from DuPage, Kane, and parts of Will and Kendall counties. The highly competitive auditions required students to prepare scales, etudes and/or selected excerpts of music pieces. Auditions were conducted digitally and each student had to submit a video.

From West Chicago, Cora Garling (Choir, senior, Soprano I), Vanessa Miguel-Garcia (Orchestra, senior, Violin), Milly Mora-Zarco (Choir, sophomore, Bass 1), Jessie Myers (Band, sophomore, Percussion), Neela Myers (Band, senior, Flute), Chase Pechman (Band, senior, Euphonium), and Nick Riconosciuto (Choir, sophomore, Bass 2).

From Winfield, (Avery Moffatt, senior, Alto 2), Gwenneth Nika (Choir, sophomore, Alto 1).

The students are under the direction of Brandon Fantozzi (choir), Marissa Janiszewski (band), and Sara Austin (orchestra).
