TFI in Vernon Hills hosts free recovery and pilates classes in December

TFI (formerly The FIT Institute) has opened a new a location in Vernon Hills, at 701 N. Milwaukee Ave. TFI is a privately-owned physical therapy clinic, Pilates studio, personal training gym and recovery room that bridges the gap between rehab and sports performance.

The recently opened clinic - TFI's second following the opening of its clinic on the north side of Chicago - is co-owned by 2010 Olympic silver medalist speed skater Brian Hansen; Ryan LeFever, a former physical therapist for the Chicago White Sox; Isaac Lai, a Vernon Hills local who's worked with members of the Chicago Bears and Blackhawks; and Luigi Degirolamo, a collegiate soccer player and former head coach for Notre Dame College Prep and the Wilmette Wings.

To celebrate the opening, TFI will offer free public classes in December including "Pilates Weekend" on Dec. 2 and 3 from 9: a.m. to 1 p.m. and "Recover Like a Pro" on Dec. 9 at 11:30 a.m.

The free pilates classes will be hosted by TFI's experienced Pilates Instructors Meredeth Duggan and Laura Orcutt. The event includes a one-hour pilates class. Pilates is part of TFI's holistic integrative approach to health and wellness and include a Reformer Class for an intense resistance-based full body workout with emphasis on the core, a Tower Class using a tower as an alternative to the typical reformer class, and a low-impact Cardio Class that applies plyometric exercises on the jumpboard for a high intensity workout. "Recover Like a Pro" will be hosted by recovery specialist, Ryan LeFever. The class will engage participants in a fire and ice protocol for recovery which includes a breathing session, movement, sauna and cold plunge. TFI is in a 5,500 square foot space that provides access to top of the line fitness and rehabilitative equipment as well as a modern recovery room with two cold plunge tubs and sauna, and a fully-equipped Pilates studio.
