Metra adds another Holiday Train on UP North

After tickets for Metra's Holiday Train were snapped up in a day, the commuter railroad is adding one more trip for Santa afficionados.

The extra Holiday Train will run Saturday, Dec. 16, on the Union Pacific North Line. Tickets are available at shop.metra.com starting at 7 a.m. Thursday and are expected to fly up the chimney quickly.

The specially decorated trains featuring Santa, Mrs. Claus and other North Pole favorites travel to downtown stations decorated for the season.

Previously, the Holiday Train just ran on the Metra Electric Line. This year, Metra expanded service to the BNSF, Milwaukee District West, Rock Island, Union Pacific Northwest and this week - the UP North.

The UP North Holiday Train starts with an inbound trip from Waukegan at 11:10 a.m. It will also stop at Great Lakes, Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, Highland Park, Ravinia, Glencoe, Winnetka, Wilmette, Central St., Davis St., Main St., Rogers Park, and Ravenswood before arriving at a transformed Ogilvie Transportation Center at 12:30 p.m.

It will depart Ogilvie at 1:35 p.m., or participants can remain downtown and catch any outbound train home that day.

Tickets are $5 each and must be purchased in advance.
