Fund set up to help independent living center residents after fire in Naperville
A recent fire at Naperville's Katharine Manor Apartments, a facility managed by the Illinois Independent Living Center, has caused significant damage and distress to its residents, most of whom are mobility impaired and in wheelchairs.
In response to this tragic event, the Illinois Independent Living Center has established the "Fire Support Fund" to assist in the rebuilding and aid for the affected residents.
The fire, which broke out on Nov. 29, resulted in the displacement of several residents and estimated damages of $300,000.
Thanks to the quick response of emergency services, there were no injuries, but the emotional and material impact on our residents and building is substantial.
Theyy are reaching out to the community for support. Donations to the Fire Support Fund will be used for the necessary remodels of apartments and public areas, repairs of the damaged units and to provide immediate assistance to residents who have lost their belongings, including clothing and personal items.
