Fox Valley Brass Band hosts 'Holiday Traditions' Dec. 10

Fox Valley Brass Band will perform "Holiday Traditions," a concert of seasonal music from around the world, on Sunday, Dec. 10.

The concert will take place at 3 p.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church, 14 N. May St. in Aurora. Admission is free although donations to Wesley will be accepted.

Selections by the 30-member band will include "Christmas Fantasia," by Andrew Wainwright; "The Snowman (Walking on the Air theme)" by Howard Blake, "The Bells of Christmas," Stephen Bulla; "Troika," Prokofiev; and "Christmas Festival," Leroy Anderson.

The band director is Victor Anderson, an instrumental music instructor at Yorkville High School and music department chair for Yorkville Community Unit District 115.

Anderson said, "Fox Valley Brass Band will have you singing and dancing to classic Christmas carols and favorites from Leroy Anderson and other favorites."

He received a Bachelors of Music Education from Illinois Wesleyan University, a Masters of Music Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and completed administrative certification through Aurora University.

Refreshments will be served at a post-concert reception.

A partnering organization with the band, Wesley UMC provides its sanctuary free for band concerts and subsidizes winter and summer concerts.

The band is part of Fox Valley Music Consortium, an Aurora-based nonprofit dedicated to providing fine musical performances for people of all ages and educational opportunities for youth.

The nonprofit comprises multiple professional and high level amateur performing groups and youth education programs. Consortium members are Fox Valley Orchestra & Chorus, Fox Valley Brass Band, Fox Valley Jazz Big Band, Fox Chamber Singers, Fox Valley El Sistema, Fox Valley Youth Orchestra, Fox Valley Youth Chorus and Fox Valley Youth Jazz.

Fox Valley Brass Band, a 30-piece ensemble, continues its 2023-24 season on March 3 with "The Unconquerable Soul," and June 23 with "Summer Pops."

These concerts are at 3 p.m. Online tickets are $15 or $12 for students and seniors. Tickets at the door are $20 and $15. To purchase tickets, go to foxvalleybrassband.org.
