Schaumburg police searching for shooting suspect released from hospital

Schaumburg police are searching for a shooting suspect they say was improperly released from a medical facility without any notification.

Dion T. Rodgers, 23, is wanted in connection with an early morning shooting on Dec. 13 on the 1200 block of East Higgins Road.

No one was injured in the shooting that happened at about 2:45 a.m., police said. The intended victim was known to Rodgers, and the shooting was not a random act, they added.

Rodgers was arrested after the shooting but sought medical care unrelated to the shooting while in custody. Police officials said the department “completed paperwork” required for the agency to be notified when Rodgers was going to be released from the facility’s care. However, they say they never received that notification, and Rodgers was allowed to go free.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Rodgers, charging him with attempted first-degree murder.

“The facility advised they were unable to provide further details of his release,” a news release from Schaumburg police read. “Currently his location is unknown, and we are actively searching for Rodgers.”

Rodgers was last seen on the 2000 block of West Division Street in Chicago.

Anyone with information about Rodgers’ whereabouts is urged to contact Schaumburg police at (847) 348-7055.
