Bears chairman texts Arlington Heights mayor: ‘The kid QB played pretty well’

Property taxes, zoning issues and politics aside, Chicago Bears Chairman George McCaskey and Arlington Heights Mayor Tom Hayes couldn’t help but share in the excitement of the team’s first wins this season.

After the Bears’ Oct. 5 victory over the Washington Commanders, Hayes texted McCaskey, “George — Congrats on the W! Tom.”

“Thank you, Mayor,” McCaskey replied. “Long time coming.”

After Hayes sent a similar congratulatory text following the next win against the Las Vegas Raiders on Oct. 22, McCaskey commented on the performance of backup quarterback Tyson Bagent.

“Thank you, Mayor. The kid QB played pretty well,” McCaskey wrote.

The congratulatory texts were buried in hundreds of pages of text and email communications of Arlington Heights village officials obtained by the Daily Herald through Freedom of Information Act requests.
