Film makers ready to desecrate Mickey’s image

I have just read the article on the back page of the Daily Herald entitled, “In public domain just a few days, Mickey Mouse already to star in two horror movies.”

Mickey Mouse and Winnie the Pooh and the like Disney story figures bring joy and wonder to children around the world. They bring messages of good triumphing evil. They bring smiles to adults and children alike. Bedrooms are furnished with Mickey and Minnie wallpaper and bedspread cartoon figures. How is it that film makers can decide to turn our children’s favorite characters and cartoons into gory, bloody films depicting the cute and innocent Mickey into an evil predatory character?

Now that Steamboat Willie isn’t any longer protected by copyright, it seems like there are no better things these film writers can come up with other than the irreverent, terrible use of these characters. Don’t they realize that children everywhere will be affected by misuse of these playful iconic characters?

Their friendly Mickey will be committing crimes in the latest horror film that can be clicked on by any child searching for a Mickey cartoon on You Tube. I hope our children will be protected by their parents. I pray that film makers will change their minds and understand that they have a responsibility to protect our children and to show them fun and wonderful films.
