Family displaced after fire damages Mundelein home

No injuries were reported but a family had to be relocated Saturday after a fire broke out in their Mundelein home, authorities said Sunday.

Firefighters called to the home on the 500 block of Bonniebrook Avenue at about 5:23 p.m. arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the attic, according to the Mundelein Fire Department.

The single-family home’s occupants and a family cat escaped safely before firefighters arrived.

Members of the first fire crew to arrive pulled a hose line in front of the home, while other firefighters connected to a nearby fire hydrant, officials said. A second crew arrived and entered the home to see whether the fire had spread.

The fire was under control by 5:59 p.m. and flames did not spread to any adjoining homes, officials said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Officials said 22 firefighters battled the blaze. The Mundelein Police Department assisted, as did firefighters from Countryside, Libertyville, Lake Zurich, Gurnee, Lake Forest and Lincolnshire.
