Addison man charged in Villa Park chase

Pretrial release was denied Thursday for a man accused of driving away from police officers at speeds up to 80 mph.

Oscar Salazar, 35, of the 100 block of Rozanne Drive in Addison, is charged with two counts of aggravated fleeing and eluding and several misdemeanor and traffic offenses, including aggravated speeding in a school zone, according to the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office.

Villa Park police reported that around 9 p.m. Wednesday, they saw a vehicle in a store parking lot that was suspected of fleeing Bloomingdale police a few days ago.

They watched the vehicle and followed it when it left. When they turned on their emergency lights and sirens near Addison Road and Division Street, Salazar allegedly ran a stop sign and continued, even though he ran over a mobile spike tire-deflation device.

He disobeyed stop lights and ultimately drove about 80 mph in a 45-mph zone on North Avenue, according to the news release.

Officers deployed more spike strips, disabling the right front tire, as Salazar allegedly drove around stopped vehicles and through a red light. As he tried to enter I-355, more spikes were used.

Police allege he refused to get out of the car, so they broke a window and shocked him with a Taser to disable and remove him.

According to a petition for pretrial detention, Salazar was convicted in 2019 and 2017 for misdemeanor fleeing and eluding.
